Dear Dame Shelley and Mr Johnson,

I respect of this one off work ACOBA understands that Mr Johnson has been invited by former NATO Secretary General (and previously Prime Minister of Denmark) Anders Fogh Rasmussen to join an initiative he’s set up, co-chaired by Ukrainian President Zelensky’s chief adviser Andriy Yermak. It’s called the International Working Group, and will work to deliver recommendations on European security architecture ahead of the next NATO summit this summer. This is unpaid and the specific activity will be limited to meetings and the occasional public statement, in line with Mr Johnson's well known continued support for Ukraine.  We understand the report/recommendation will be published ahead of the NATO Summit and Mr Johnson will not have any contact with HMG around this.

As described this ad-hoc unpaid time limited as is not an appointment or employment, but participating in an ad hoc working group with other politicians and former politicians. If that changes into an ongoing role - you must come back as it will require advice under the Rules if it becomes an appointment.

Best wishes,

Cat

Thanks very much.

I don’t think so, the latest info I’ve had is that RG and the office of the President of Ukraine will jointly provide the secretariat function for the Group.

Dear Shelley, thanks for the email and I will revert ASAP. Can I ask - is this being badged as a Rasmussen Global initiative?

Good evening. I’ve not heard anything back on this and as explained below, the timeframe on this is tighter than most of what we deal with so I'd be really grateful for an urgent update, including on whether you think this even needs to go through the process.

The inaugural meeting is now fixed for Tuesday and they plan to make an announcement afterwards naming the Group members, which would obviously include Mr Johnson and we are keen that they are able to go ahead and do that.

Thanks very much

Shelley

I have had some limited email correspondence on this one – I am not sure whether you judge it necessary for this one to go through the process.

But in the interest of speed and transparency (the first meeting is now fixed for the end of January, and as explained this is a time limited project aiming to work up recommendations to feed into the June NATO summit) I am submitting this formally.  Mr Johnson will participate in that initial meeting later this month.  As things stand there are no plans for any imminent announcements or public facing elements relating to this work.

Many thanks

Shelley
